Women voice for development is a women led non-profit organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women.  Women voice was established in 2017 by a group of women who had knowledge and skills, with a vision to create a platform through which young girls and women can be empowered psychologically, economically and health wise. The organization is registered with the District as a CBO and operates in Kitgum in northern Uganda.

Sources of funding

For years now since 2017 to date the organization has been supporting the beneficiaries through fundraising and sales of seedlings at a lower price to the community and money is used for supporting organization activities. Our funding comes through local resource mobilization, contribution from well wishers, donor funds and fundraising

Challenges we address

  • Loss of dignity among women and girls and cultural bias against them.
  • Limited capacities of both women voice and community in addressing the overwhelming plight of vulnerable women and girls.
  • Violation of rights of the extremely vulnerable young women and girls
  • Lack of fees for school going girls to attend formal education.
  • Lack of justice for the most venerable persons.

Target Group

Women and girls with the following related vulnerabilities: – child mothers, formerly abducted, child headed households/orphans, HIV/AIDs, women and girls living with disability, single mothers, vulnerable women and survivors of sexual gender based violence (SGBV).

The organization has a competent Board of Governors comprises of five members from diverse professions; Health, Education, Social workers, Engineering and Religion with its unique recruitment policy based on voluntarism.

Women Voice for Development has maintained a competent, qualified and experienced array of work force committed to the organization’s core values, Self-reliance, Dignity, Hope, Respect, Nondiscrimination, Honesty, Transparency and Accountability.

Our Achievements

  • A fully functional secretariat in Kitgum which is tasked with coordination of its activities
  • A team of qualified and committed administrative and field staff.
  • A team of qualified board members with different professions.
  • Established a group of volunteers who support in program implementation and monitoring
  • High level of networking and coordination with stakeholders and partner’s organization in the implementation of its programs in project location.
  • Availability of policies, Human Resource, Finance, Anti corruption, gender, volunteer, interns, asset and procurement policy.
  • 100 women and girls have benefited from psychosocial support according to their testimonies
  • Existent of 20 organized and trained groups in life skill, business skill and VSLA have benefited from women voice for development
  • 30 families have been mediated and reunited with families as a result of domestic violence.
  • 200 cases of domestic violence have been registered and 50 cases are in court pending trial.
  • 20 survivors of sexual gender based violence cases have received medical support from women voice for development.
  • 100 cases have been referred for medical support.
  • Existent of women network at sub county, parish and village levels. Who are working as community resource persons.
  • Organized 5 community meetings and dialogue
  • Organized 6 radio talk shows for advocacy on human rights
  • Organized 5 school clubs
  • Organized 4 sensitizations in schools on Sexual gender based violence
